About Voyager
Voyager Global Mobility is a smart-mobility provider that sources, operates, and allocates a high-utilization rideshare fleet across the United States, Mexico, and Costa Rica. Voyager’s model generates a continuous stream of telematics and customer data, which the team treats as a strategic asset. They use analytics to guide vehicle purchases, maintenance schedules, pricing, and targeted driver outreach.
The Challenges
Data Access Bottlenecked 100+ Employees Without SQL Skills
Voyager’s valuable data lived in BigQuery but was accessible mainly by a small group of SQL specialists. The company’s complex data model added another layer of difficulty, limiting broader data and analysis exploration. Sales, branch, and marketing teams faced delays waiting for reports and needed time to understand the data structure, slowing down decision-making.
Manual Excel Workflows and Multiple Tools Slowed Reporting
Reporting relied on manual Excel exports, complex formatting, and email hand-offs. Data preparation also required moving information across multiple tools, such as PowerBI and Excel, which added time and complexity. These labor-intensive processes created risks of delays and errors, especially during staff absences.
Lack of Integrated Data Kept Fleet and Marketing Decisions Anecdotal
Fleet and marketing teams lacked unified views of vehicle maintenance costs, resale values, customer profiles, and market demand. This fragmentation meant decisions — from vehicle purchasing to campaign targeting — were based more on experience than comprehensive data, capping profitability and growth potential.
Expanded Data Access Raised Governance and Security Needs
With expanding data access, protecting sensitive customer information, such as credit card details and personally identifiable data, became critical. Existing governance practices needed enhancement to ensure flexible, role-based controls without hindering user productivity.
The Solution
Business Teams Gained Direct Access to Data
Savant made it easy for analysts, managers, and operations leads to explore and work with data. Instead of depending on a handful of SQL experts, teams could answer questions themselves, speed up decision-making, and reduce delays.
Manual Reporting Replaced with Automated Workflows
Recurring Excel work and email exports were automated. Teams could now schedule reports, build once and reuse, and send data directly into tools like Power BI — without needing someone to manually pull it each time.
Stronger Marketing and Fleet Decisions with Connected Data
Savant helped Voyager blend customer, vehicle, and maintenance data in one place. This gave teams the clarity to choose better vehicles and run more targeted campaigns, leading to improved conversion rates and lower maintenance costs.
Scaled Analytics as Fleet Grew 33% — Without Hiring SQL Experts
Voyager’s fleet grew from 6,000 to 8,000 vehicles. But the analytics team stayed lean. Savant enabled business users to own more of the analysis and reporting functions, eliminating the need to hire 2–3 SQL specialists. In doing so, Savant proved an immediate ROI on the platform investment.
Data Access Controlled with Role-Based Permissions
As data access expanded, Voyager realized the need to restrict sensitive fields like credit card data. Even though governance wasn’t a priority at the start, Savant made it easy to implement role-based controls later. The platform’s built-in governance capabilities ensured Voyager could move fast without compromising security.
